"Often we get poor service because we're poor customers" writes author Ron Kaufman in his best seller "Uplifting Service:The Proven Path to Delighting Your Customers,Colleagues and Everyone Else You Meet."
He has eight tips for you:
Be appreciative and polite ("Thank you for helping me,I really appreciate it")
Get your service provider's name and use it(Once you know it,repeat it with a smile in your voice)
Be upbeat
Provide information just the way they want it(have all your info ready and give it in the order they prefer)
Confirm next actions(that way you can catch any misunderstandings and correct it along the way)
When appropriate, commiserate(sometimes service providers are having a bad day:say "It sounds like things are tough right now,I really appreciate your help")
Show your appreciation(If they give you great service, why not write a compliment)
Spread the word(the next time you receive uplifting service, take a photo of that person and send to their manager with a message:"This person's service makes me admire and appreciate your organization")
